Amur- the Tigress Within

07:02

"There is no room for your impoliteness, now stay in this dark room for hours and you will understand the meaning of good behavior." Amur's grandmother scolded her and locked her in the room.

Amur quietly sat on the floor in one corner of the room and sobbing softly so that no one could hear her cry. She was babbling to herself, “What is my fault? Why did grandmother scold me?”

She only wanted to play cricket with her cousins who came to Bihar from Mumbai to visit their ancestral property during winter vacation.

Amur was an 8-years old bright and intelligent girl then. She was very good at studies and extracurricular activities. But, her grandmother was never happy with Amur’s behavior and scolded her mother even for not controlling her daughter.

Her only fault is that “she is a girl” and according to our society, girls are only labeled as “Sanskari”, well-mannered girl who should know how to cook, how to sew clothes and how to respect elders and always stay behind the closed doors.

Amur is no more an 8-years old kid and she turned 28 this year. She is a care-free and tigress nature girl who loves to have messy hair over knotted bun. She is the Brand Strategist of a leading company in Mumbai and recently shifted her Grandmother from Bihar to her one-room rented apartment for Cancer treatment. She treated her Day-in and Day-out irrespective of her high profile job.

Her Mumbai cousins never turn around and pay any heed to their grandmother’s illness.

“I am sorry”, you are my real GRANDAUGHTER, and I failed to recognize you” a weak voice of grandmother explains to Amur.

She smiled and did not utter a single word.
