Magic powers are so excellent. Isn't it? I grown up watching the serial like "Son Pari" where the angel waves her magic wand and fulfill the wish of a little girl named "Frooti". Those were the golden days of my life. During my teens, I was pretty sure that these were all cooked up stories and they had no reality. These serials were only for entertainment purpose. Slowly, I also moved on in my life through education, career and other things in my life.

But, somewhere I feel that my innocence of teen days is mis-utilized by people whom I trusted the most. My parents were always supportive in whatever decision I took in my life. At some point, you took some decisions in life either based on other’s influence or your own immaturity and that’s when you made mistake and there was no one for help because all were gone except your Parents. May be, this was the reason that today I find very hard to trust anyone or make close friends. No doubt, I am a jovial girl, love to have fun, but somewhere deep down inside Me, I am Hurt and my Innocence is Wounded.

If I had magical powers, I would surely go back to the PAST and mend those situations where people wrongly utilized my innocence. Basically, I wanted to throw away those people from my life who were responsible for my Wounded innocence. Alas! I was so stupid to believe those people in my life. Thanks to my Parents who always pulled me up from my bad days and gave me a life that I deserve.

Today my day started with a call to my father, where he narrated a Father's Day poem over phone. All the childhood memories with my father once again became fresh. My father, a man of strong words, fun loving and my father is also a great foodie. He never set boundaries for me and gave me all the freedoms that I asked from him. Still, he had some principles that I followed and respected all through my life. May be, those principles shaped me as a person that I am today.

I never saw my father brought office work at home. He was a complete family man who loved to play with me after his tiring day at office without any signs of depression. As well as, he fixed my study hours too. At one time, he always made me feel that “he is liberal and easy going” while at other time, he was “strict” in some situations. During my teens, it was very hard for me to understand, but now, each action of him reminded me the “grown up phase” of my life. Thanks for your guidance Papa…

He had his own circle of friends, but never forgot his daughter and wife in the due course of time. Sometimes, my mother mocked at me and my father and said “You and your father are same”. I always smiled because, I also wanted to become like my father- generous, helpful, independent and strong. Some of my attitudes and behaviors are like my father, which I really love to flaunt being a daughter.

I remember, when I used to do any mistake or took any wrong decision in my life, he felt sad, he even scold me, but never did I see tears in his eyes. But, I cannot forget the day when I left my home forever and entered into a new life after marriage. He was happy that his daughter “got married” and he was not crying like I did. But, his eyes said “my princes is gone to her house forever and she will only come to this house as a guest”. OMG! As I am writing, tears rolled through my eyes too. I miss him each day, but now, I have my own family and responsibilities.

I want to Thank You Papa for the strength in me that straightaway comes from You. I feel proud to be your daughter and want to be your daughter even in my next birth. I Love You.

Is loving yourself is a selfish concept? Please answer me Society....

I have been through stages where people told me categorically that I AM SELFISH. It really hurts me, people around me want me to realize that "I am in their control."

 I was hurt, I cried, I broke….but, I didn’t stop loving myself.

This is the one thing which is only mine. I am an emotional girl, but too realistic for society.

I pity on people who told me Selfish because “they are insecure and jealous and may be they have nothing precious inside them to appreciate when such people stand in front of the mirror”….

May, I sound over-confident to you. But, why not? When I am an educated girl with descent job, independent thoughts, have my own voice and as well as gift of patience and sacrifice (gift from parents).

Unsuccessful and narrow-minded people always want to pull your legs to let you down. But, you should have the confidence to change your surroundings and come as a Phoenix.

Yes, lady you can and it’s time to live a tasteful life.

"Tring Tring, my phone rang... Hello?

Hello? I call off my marriage.... She said

What? It's only ten days left for your marriage. What went wrong? Did they ask for dowry? I asked her in a panic voice

"I will tell you once I join the office" 

She is my colleague, Amrita Ghosh, a 30-year old jovial lady and I know her for two years, after I joined the company. In one word, she is the “apple of company’s eyes”. When she broke the news of her marriage, I was very happy and excited at the same time. I met her would-be-groom too. I heard all the shopping stories for her marriage. She was very excited about her wedding dress, makeup and collections of jewelry. She always wanted the best for her marriage.

When a girl calls off her marriage, then don’t you think there is something really serious? Wedding is a special day for all girls and they plan this day to make it the memorable one. It is a day when “a daddy’s little princess also turn into a loving and responsible partner for the man of her life.”

Amrita is an independent, 30-year old girl who loves her friends, family and loves to talk a lot. The family decided the groom for her and eventually, both the girl and boy liked each other. Everything was fine for two to three months (as you know it happened in every arrange marriage.) The groom was in a white collar profession, but she slowly she found a man with a black heart. She is very practical in her thoughts yet emotional at the same time. Her independence is in her thoughts and not in her appearance, or the way she dress up or hang out with her friends.

In her words, “the man was a “social gentleman” who wanted a wife with good education, “sati savitri appearance” and who will consider his family at the top most. He is a social gentleman so he never says “NO” on my face on the decisions that I take. But, he will make you understand with his clever words that he is not in favor of my decision.”

I was completely taken aback with her words. She is a girl of today where she works in an office, take care of her mother and balance both personal and professional life. Is it wrong to have her mind? Is there any division of work between men or women? Well, our society thinks so, but she does not think like that. That’s the main problem of so-called “social gentleman”. It seems that a girl is only born to get name and recognition from this marriage material man. For an independent girl, who love to enjoy life, travel, these social norms are just claustrophobic.

She showed patience for 5 to 6 months for the sake of her Mother and family because her relatives will repeat the same old question again “Kobe korbi biye?” (When will you marry?”). She never wanted this experience from marriage or from her partner and finally, she made up her mind and called off her marriage to live her life with independent thoughts.

Will you marry again? I asked her

She replied- Yes, of course, why not, marriage is such a beautiful thing, but not till I find someone eligible to my thoughts and not my appearance.

In India, women are basically judged on their looks, and whether they can look after the family after marriage and carry on with all household chores. As per statistics-

In the middle of the paddy field, a girl wearing a white shirt and denim shorts can see only fences all around.

All the people are laughing at her helplessness and she was crying hard to find a away out from the fence boundary. But, she couldn't.....

Kia jumped out of bed and she sweating heavily. After a few seconds, she realized it was a dream.

“Mamma, give my breakfast, I am late for the college”, Kia asked her mother

“Yes, giving”…. (Suddenly, a car arrived in front of her home and a guy calling for a ride to college)

“Oh that’s Rohan! Mama, bye, see you later”- Kia exclaimed as she waved hands to her mother.

“Kia, your breakfast”- Mother remarked

“Later”- Kia replied

Rohan is Kia’s boyfriend and they were in a relationship for 3 years and till date they are going very strong. They were planning for their excursion trip when suddenly “Kia fell down.”

“Are you alright?”  Rohan confirmed Kia

“Yes, I am and I will go home”. Kia requested Rohan.

Next morning, Kia confirmed Rohan that “she is pregnant” and she is only 19 years old.

“How can it be possible? No, I am sorry, I love you, but I cannot take this responsibility. I have my full life waiting ahead.” Rohan said Kia

“What about me? As if my life is lost…. Kia pounced back

"Deal with this nonsense, bye...." - Rohan walked away

Tears rolled from Kia’s eyes as she was…….

Did you fear that I will leave you at night? Aakash winked and exclaimed

Maya replied, “No, wicked witches come at night and omen sign to snatch people whom you love” (her fear of a last night bad dream)

Oh Baby! You love me so much? …. Aaakash asked foolishly

Maya hugged him tightly and said “I am madly in love with you my honey”

My excitement knew no boundary when my husband suddenly planned for Bolpur (Shantiniketan) trip last weekend. My happiness was doubled because I was a Post Graduate student of Visva-Bharati University (under Central Government). I was a Master degree student in Journalism and Mass Communication then and had lot of memories in Shantiniketan.

Visva-Bharati was established by Rabindranath Tagore (An eminent novelist, writer, song writer and poet) in the heart of Shantiniketan, district Birbhum. His dream was to expand the education and knowledge not only in India, but also around the globe. His interest in Chinese culture is known to everyone and that is why; China’s respect for Visva-Bharati always got a remarkable position in the University. I am proud to be a student of this university with a broader vision and goal.

If you board a train, it is only 2 to 3 hours journey from Kolkata and many trains are easily available from both Howrah and Sealdah station. We boarded Satabdi Express at 2.15 pm from Howrah and we practically run to catch the train. (All thanks to our Kolkata traffic).

At 4.00 pm, we reached Bolpur (Shantiniketan) and I could smell the soul of Lal Mati (Red Soil). Thanks to my University Sir from whom I asked for help for hotel booking and I got a room for a day. (Rush of Tourists still prevalent).

We book a ToTo (New launched public transport in Shantiniketan) and straightaway head to Shanibarer Haat (Saturday Flea Market). The speciality of this Haat is that you can find people selling Handicraft items (showpieces, paintings, clothes with hand stitch designs), handmade food items, and the famous Baul gatherings (local music of Birbhum district). When I was a student, we friends had our own bicycles and we cycled through the Lal Mati and spend some weekend time at Haat. It is open for all and the entire Haat will wrap up when the sun set.

I and my husband went there and found that the Red Soil Road was transferred into solid concrete road and the work was still in progress. This decision killed the essence of Red Soil.

My Man: What happen?

Me: I am feeling sad to see the condition of the Haat

My Man: What can you do?

Me: Nothing

My Man: I loved it and let’s take more pictures of the Haat, Eucalyptus trees and Khowai

Me: I smiled

In the evening, when we were having tea, suddenly my husband asked me I want to see Shantiniketan through your eyes. I was very happy and smiling inside. But, many things changed in these five years.

Still, I took him to the places where I used to have my breakfast, lunch and dinner, my Paying Guest locality and building, my Campus, my department, my shopping stores, my grocery stores and friends Adda (chatting) zone with friends. I felt, as if I was a student again and enjoying my days to the fullest. We strolled around the shopping market and check out the special Dokra jewelry of Bolpur (Shantiniketan). We also visited Kankali Tala Temple (Temple of Maa Kali) and offered praying.

On Sunday, we boarded Kaviguru Express at 2.10 pm and reached Howrah by 5.00 pm. It was a sudden weekend trip and all thanks goes to my man. It’s a great weekend break for me to relive my golden Post Graduate days.
